Heart Lands

The American Midwest, as a whole, was a relative latecomer to the official territory of the United States. And yet since then, the region has come to symbolize, especially in political life, so much that is quintessentially American. This exhibit examines the dynamics of this mythology, and traces the region’s shifting identities over the past quarter-millennium.
